Biere passes Stage 1 Malt Accreditation
March 13, 2019Barley Australia has recently advised GrainSearch® that Biere successfully passed Stage 1 of the Malt Accreditation program, using the grain grown near Birchip (Vic Mallee) in 2017. This is positive news for the variety. GrainSearch® will continue to evaluate Biere in 2019 to determine how best growers can use the variety on their farm. To date, Biere has proven to be a strong, vigorous variety that is well adapted to growing in drier environments with low inputs. Beaufort Seed for 2019 Season
May 17, 2018GrainSearch is alerting growers to the fact that there will be limited new commercial seed available of Beaufort for sowing in 2019 season. Growers who feel they may need to refresh their seed stock, or want to start growing Beaufort on their farm in 2019, should make contact with GrainSearch before the end of December 2018 to register their interest in purchasing Beaufort seed. This will help GrainSearch ensure that there is seed available on the mainland for growers to purchase ahead of sowing in 2019. Biere Barley – Stage 1 testing to commence soon
May 17, 2018GrainSearch is anxiously awaiting the results of Stage 1 Malt Accreditation testing of the 2017 season Biere grain, grown in the Mallee region(Vic). Barrett Burston Malting are conducting the tests and it is hoped that the results will show Biere is commercially capable of producing the high quality export type malt that it demonstrated through many seasons of development trials. GrainSearch has put on hold malt grain production for Stage 2 until the results of Stage 1 are known. Bottler Barley Grain Production underway in 2018
May 17, 2018Selected growers in Victoria and Western Australia have sown their Bottler Barley seed this season (2018) in anticipation of achieving malt quality grain production for Barrett Burston Malting (BBM) to purchase. This malt grade grain will be used by BBM to commence Stage 1 Malt Accreditation testing. GrainSearch will apply to Barley Australia to have Bottler accepted into the Malt Accreditation program in 2019 and Stage 2 malt grain production will take place in 2019 and BBM will be purchasing malt grade Bottler grain from growers in selected regions. Beaufort continues to shine
May 17, 2018Beaufort (Red-grained feed wheat) again showed its class in 2017, topping or coming close to topping a range of commercial main season wheat trials in 2017 in NSW and Vic. With the later start to the 2018 cropping season, Beaufort’s wide sowing window will again help growers by being able to be sown right into early June – and it’s adaptability will still see it perform at/near the top seasonal yield potential.
